Biography of a Build CH.08/August 16, 2021
Well July was a bit of a crapshoot. The COVID situation here closed down all construction sites so we couldn’t work for half of it and it was snowing for the other half of the month….so not a lot got done. There were however some nice sunsets.
Whilst we would have liked to have been drinking virgin Pina coladas looking at the sunset we took the opportunity to work on some projects that have been hanging around for a bit.
A model of the “Can’t Break Your Hip House” to communicate more clearly about how the whole thing comes together. Different people have different ways of understanding space and drawings (like plans and sections) are not always the best.
For Healthabitat - A toilet design guide that compiles over a decade of work into one (hopefully easy) document. In Nepal there are many communities and schools that don’t have any functioning toilets. The idea of this document being that other NGO’s or local communities can use some of the design and construction principles to achieve functional, long lasting toilets.
Demonstration boards that will be used by Healthabitat on Housing for Health project managers to help train local teams about the parts of the house that are most crucial to health and how to spot faults and fix faults.
Several design projects (studios, renovations, etc) for a bunch of wonderful people.
Onwards and structurally upwards!

Dusty & Thirsty
We are taking note from The Grand Section on the value of documenting the journey whilst you’re in it by hand rather than just the final result by photograph.
At the end of each month we sit down and visually document the build journey of ‘Can’t Break Your Hip House’ up in Blackheath and the people who have been a part of that chapter. A great way to reflect on going-ons, small wins and lots of learnings
Our July biography of a build out now. This month featuring the amazing Michael Hoffman, Jen, Wayne & Simon, Matt and Tom from SCA Engineering. We have floor structure and all of our structural steel in place!! Now time for some walls....and maybe a post lockdown party!
